May 10 - Tallebudgera to Landsborough - 85 km

Up early again. Saw these paddle boarders on the river.  Thought you would be interested Carrie and Grant.  Not as picturesque as Moke Lake, but the water is certainly warmer.

Cycled up to Southport. Had an interesting ride travelling through Surfers Paradise on a bike lane that started out 2 way but at some point became 1 way only. Naturally we didn't realise and continued on regardless. Wondered why some people were getting agitated.  Got to Surfers after battling traffic.  Joe jumped for joy.  He thought he would see a meter maid.  No such luck.

Turned towards Brisbane on the Gold Coast Highway as far as Helensville where we were forced to catch a train. Cyclists are not allowed on the Gold Coast Motorway and there is no other sensible way from there. We arrived at the station 4 minutes before the train which was good. The train fare for the 2 of us was $28.50 which we thought was exorbitant.

Tony arranged for us to meet up with Sean, Clare, Joanne, Sonia, Kim, Bernie and Max from Terrica Place. Micheal Seddon was there as well. How does he do it? We can't get travel budget so we ride our bikes on inter-office visits but Micheal gets around regardless. It was good to catch up and remind ourselves why we are on holiday.  Great to see you all and thanks for coming down for morning tea.

After a quick morning tea we were back on the train out to Caboolture by 12.00 pm. Another minute later we would have had to spend another $28.50 on train fares. The train trip was uneventful and we were back on our bikes just after 1.00 pm.

Saw this station Sarah and knew you would be interested given you go to the Geebung Polo Club so often.

Thanks for the directions Clare.  We had a nice ride out to Beerwah where we stopped at the Tourist Information and received excellent service from Dorothy at the Glasshouse Mountains tourist centre who directed us to a Rest Stop just past Landsborough that had free camiping. Also had a chat with local Justice of the Peace who had set up shop on the verandah of the Information office.

Stopped in Landsborough to get supplies for dinner and then rode along Steve Irwin Way past Australia Zoo. The traffic was feral and there was no shoulder. Buses in particular seem to get very close and we were quite nervous. Is it wrong to say Steve Irwin has no shoulders?

Stayed at the Beerwah Forest Reserve, near the Caloundra turnoff.

We were so hungry when we got there I saw this bush turkey and thought I would do him for tea, of course Joe objected because he is pescatarian , so I let him go.

The campsite filled up with backpackers in really crappy vehicles. We chatted with 2 German guys who were travelling together. They had some techno music and a generator going but it didn't bother us, we were that tired we ate tea and were in bed by 7:30 pm.

  1. I cannot believe Seddon would organise a trip to Brissy - just to catch up with the boys. S&ME doing well obviously despite the thrift measures!
