May 15 - Booyal to Granite Creek - 92 km

Cold start to the day, we covered the the 35 km to Gin Gin quickly. Some absolute bogans up here.  While we were riding along some "P" platers in an old white Datsun sped past and threw a full can of beer at Tony.  Missed him, but we wasted 15 minutes while Tony got off to look for the beer;-))  We wasted more time in Gin Gin while Tony looked for the car to thank them.

The beer can looked like this.  If anyone sees it please return to Tony

We shopped for lunch and dinner at the IGA and then went to Hot Bread Fred for morning tea. For once there was a vegetable pastie on offer. Most mornings there have plenty of pie options for carnivores but I have had to stick to cake which is frustrating.

Roadworks all the way from Gin Gin to Granite Creek where we spent the night.  Road surface was often really bad and we had to wait numerous times at the traffic lights as there was only traffic flowing on one direction at a time.

Roadwork staff were great.  Letting the cars and trucks go through first and then us to follow.  They provided an escort once or twice and often let us ride through on a "double red" so no traffic flowed except for us.

Just before we got to Granite Creek, a wayside camp area where we spent the night, we had our first mechanical problem for the trip.  The bolts supporting Joe's rear pack rack sheared off.  Probably because of the weight and the roughness of the surface we had been going over. Joe had spares so quickly made the repairs.

Got talking to Tony who was heading up to Lucinda near Hinchinbrook.  He let us charge the laptop and even provided us with a glass of red to go with dinner.

Granite Creek was a good spot to stay.  The usual noise of trucks, but we had toilets and this big lit area so we didn't have to cook dinner by torchlight.
