May 13 - Hervey Bay Rest Day

Had a great sleep in a real bed last night.  Fantastic.

Joe was up at 6:00 and went for a long walk.  I stayed in bed and read my book.  Good not to have to get up and be on the road.  Had showers, did washing.  How mundane.

We went off in search of a bike shop.  Joe dropped his speedo in a pond when we first got to the YHA and then put his foot in to try and find it.  Too late.  Wish I was faster with the camera.  So we went looking to get a speedo and a light as my light went missing on the train trip, so I needed a light.  Couldn't find the shop we were looking for so split up and went exploring Hervey Bay.

Saw this sign down near the beach, but didn't see any camels.

Joe took some pictures of the pier and a pelican.

YHAs are great.  Cheap accommodation  and you meet lots of different people.  Plenty of Germans and Dutch around.  Here we have the bikes parked right near our room which overlooks this garden.

Room was basic but we thought a full size bed with a proper mattress was pretty good.  See how tidy we aren't.

Spent the rest of the day reading in the bar and resting the legs.  They are going to get a good workout over the next few days.  Rockhampton is the next big town and it is about 400 km away with not many sizable towns in between.  We will have to carry extra food and water.  We are hoping to do it in about 3 days.  Rockhampton will smell us coming.

Happy Birthday to Kathy H.  Here is the photo you wanted.
